This shows you how to add your yourdomain.co.za mailbox to the mail app on an iPhone or Android phone.
The settings you will need
Have these ready. They are the same on both platforms:
- Email address: the full address, for example info@yourdomain.co.za
- Password: that mailbox's password
- Username: the full email address again
- Incoming server: mail.yourdomain.co.za, type IMAP, port 993, SSL on
- Outgoing (SMTP) server: mail.yourdomain.co.za, port 465, SSL on, and it requires the same username and password
Always choose IMAP, not POP. IMAP keeps your phone, computer and webmail in sync.
iPhone
- Open Settings, then Apps, then Mail (on older iOS: Settings, then Mail).
- Tap Mail Accounts, then Add Account, then Other, then Add Mail Account.
- Enter your name, email address and password, then tap **Next**.
- Choose IMAP at the top.
- Under both Incoming and Outgoing, set Host Name to mail.yourdomain.co.za and enter the full email address as the user name, with the password.
- Tap Next, wait for the checks, then Save.
Android
Menus vary by phone, but in Gmail the flow is:
- Open Gmail, tap your profile picture, then Add another account.
- Choose Other.
- Enter the email address, tap Next, choose Personal (IMAP).
- Enter the password.
- Incoming server: mail.yourdomain.co.za. Tap Next.
- Outgoing server: mail.yourdomain.co.za. Tap Next and finish.
If it did not work
- "Cannot verify server identity" or a certificate warning: use the server hostname from your welcome email instead of mail.yourdomain.co.za, and it will match the certificate.
- Wrong password errors: test the same password in webmail first. If webmail rejects it too, reset the mailbox password in cPanel.
- Receives but will not send: check the outgoing server has the username and password filled in, port 465 with SSL. See also the article on email that will not send.
